Nine Startups Pitch for Top European Investors at the Microsoft Ventures Accelerator in Paris Demo Day

Last week during Microsoft TechDays we held the first Demo Day for our Microsoft Ventures Accelerator in Paris. It was only a year ago that we had announced the launch of our accelerator, and now we’ve helped 30 startups take flight. Though quite a few have already secured funding or won prestigious awards, we are really proud of all the startups that have participated in the program.

Throughout the day, nine startups pitched to a large crowd, including some of Europe’s big-name investors, a few of which came from London and other areas outside of France just to make it to the event. We had over 200 attendees, including Accel Partners, Index Ventures, DFJ Esprit, White Star Capital, Kima Ventures, Partech, Profounders Capital, Wellington Partners, ISAI, Elaia Partners, 360 Capital Partners and many more.

A few of the investors, Xavier Niel, Marc Simoncini and Jacques-Antoine Granjon, participated in a panel hosted by Jean Ferré, Director, Microsoft DPE France and Microsoft Ventures France. It was one of the rare occasions where we really got to hear about their vision for the French startup ecosystem. Granjon didn’t hesitate to share his aversion for advertisement-based business models and his belief in organic growth vs. an over-the-top acquisition strategy. Niel followed-up with his beliefs on why a technical co-founder is such a key component when developing a company. And when asked what advice he had for the French entrepreneurs in the room, Simoncini humorously replied “be like Xavier."

After the event, the startups received a lot of positive feedback from attendees. All in all, this event was a truly remarkable experience – and it’s even more exciting to know that this is just the beginning.

A huge congratulations to the startups who pitched, including: Youmiam, TraxAir, UBQT, Speecheo,, Reminiz, Speekr, Streami and Smartnotify. To view profiles on each of the startups and check out what TechCrunch said about our event, please click here.
