Five Startups Selected to Pitch at Third Paris Demo Day

Over the past few weeks, our batch #5 startups have been preparing non-stop for our third Demo Day in Paris. More than 70 of Europe’s top investors attended to watch the startups pitch. In the past, we’ve seen some truly exceptional faces in the room: French tech titans Xavier Niel, Marc Simoncini and Jacques-Antoine Granjon spoke at our very first Demo Day in February 2014; and then in November, we had the honor of having CEO Satya Nadella join us. This week, at our third Demo Day, we were thrilled to have Minister Axelle Lemaire and rising investors Pierre Kosciusko-Morizet, Olivier Mathiot and Marie Ekeland in the attendance.

This was also the first time that the new DX Lead and Director of Microsoft France, serial entrepreneur Nicolas Gaume, took the stage. Well known in the French ecosystem for his entrepreneurial background, he’s played key roles in companies like Kalisto Entertainment and Mimesis Republic.

During the event, Nicolas interviewed Laurent Lathieyre, cofounder of French startup Capptain, which Microsoft acquired last year. In light of the recent acquisition of Sunrise (also founded by a French team), this seemed like a perfect time to discuss what it means to be acquired by a company like Microsoft.

However, the highlight of the evening was, of course, the 5 startups selected to pitch:

IGLOO – This app simplifies apparel shopping for people who don’t have hours to spend looking for the perfect item. In a manner similar to Tinder, users see a variety of products and can swipe to like or dislike the various items. IGLOO will show all nearby shops that currently have the items they like stocked in the correct sizes, which the user can then reserve in order to go to the store and try them on. Follow @goodigloo.
I Know You Will – Founded by 3 women, this platform is taking an innovative approach to education and the collaborative economy. Calling itself the “Airbnb of knowledge,” this startup is a marketplace connecting teachers and students. Like Airbnb, I Know You Will goes the extra mile to validate teachers and select exceptional talent. The startup is raising €350K and already has some committed investors. Follow @iknowuwill1
Vizir – This team from Nantes is completely redoing online surveys. The company’s visual, user-friendly experience and smart algorithm help their customers achieve higher survey completion rates - 60% as opposed to the standard 20%. Their product is already being used by top companies like Total. Follow @getvizir
Contest N’ Co – This startup’s tailor-made, SaaS platform helps companies provide team-building activities for employees. Contest N’ Co is already working with a number of paying clients, including SNCF. The team is currently raising a €1.5M round. Follow @contestnco
RoomChecking – Currently working with 50+ hotels across several countries, RoomChecking is bringing a digital solution to the way hotels handle housekeeping and maintenance issues. Founded by a serial entrepreneur with a number of patents and an expert in the hotel industry, this team is currently raising a €1M round and has several interested investors. Follow @RoomChecking

Finally, the last bit of exciting news for the day was an announcement from startup Yuflow (previously Froggiz), who shared that they’d closed a €400K seed round. The startup, which provides an innovative ticketing solution for events, has had impressive growth over the last few months. Yuflow’s solution enables event attendees to pay for services like drinks and coat checking with their badge or smartphone instead of with cash.

Got what it takes? If you would like a shot at the next Paris cohort, batch #6 applications are open until February 15, 2015.
