Berlin Accelerator Celebrates Graduating its Second Batch of Startups

December 4th marked the graduation of our second Accelerator batch and, in many ways, the end of a great year in startups. Just about a year ago, we established the Microsoft Ventures Accelerator in Berlin and within that year, we've had a number of successes.

We have received 800 applications from all over the world, taken 16 wonderful startups through our program, and are extremely proud to report that 100% of our first-batch startups are now funded with an average funding amount of $1 million.

As we celebrated our second-ever Demo Day, we recognized the great achievements of our 7 new graduates and the 9 that came before them, the tireless work of our 30 excellent mentors, and the ongoing support of our local and international partners. Our Area VP, Christian Illek, delivered a bold keynote about innovation and entrepreneurship in Germany while Zack Weisfeld spoke passionately about "doing more" and the great work of Microsoft Ventures on a global level.

But this event, more than anything else, was about great pitches. Our 7 graduating startups once again delivered beyond our wildest expectations. Of course, we can only speculate whether their pitches resonated with the 80+ investors in the audience or the rest of our 250 guests—but we do know that many terrific conversations were had that night.

While our batch #2 startups slowly assume their new role as alumni, we will continue to support them as best we can. But we are also excited to work with a new batch of innovators and look forward to another great year in startups.

To all of you who continue to support our cause, a heartfelt “thank you.” And from everyone at the Microsoft Ventures Accelerator in Berlin:

Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year!

Marius, Kai and Juli
