Announcing Our Latest Global Partnership to Support and Scale Startups: Temasek and Portfolio Companies
We believe that Microsoft is uniquely positioned to help startups grow from idea to IPO, through every stage of their lifecycle, including writing the first lines of code to scaling customer growth. Whether it’s access to technology through programs like BizSpark, business growth through our first-party global accelerators, our corporate venture fund, or customer access programs as they graduate to ISVs, ecosystem engagement, Microsoft provides startups with powerful tools and resources at every step of their journey. As such, one of the most important benefits that Microsoft brings to startups are business relationships. It’s for that reason that I am excited to announce our latest global partnership: Temasek, the Singapore-based investment company with a portfolio of companies that span the globe across a wide range of industries.
Microsoft and Temasek have agreed to collaborate on deal flow in four of our accelerator locations – Berlin, Seattle, Tel Aviv, and Bangalore – with six of its portfolio companies — Ascendas, InnoVen Capital, Quann, ST Engineering, CapitaLand Limited, and Fullerton Financial – on board as partners. We believe this partnership will help startups in our accelerator program scale significantly and quickly reach global markets.
This strategic partnership gives the startups the ability to leverage subject matter experts, mentors, pilot programs, joint go-to-market initiatives and marketing support from Temasek and its portfolio companies. In return, Temasek and its portfolio companies’ strong interest in innovation, disruption, and global investment will be served via connections with startups currently in the program, as well as through our highly successful alumni that our 4-year program has accelerated to date. Some notable data from our programs include:
- Over 80% of our alumni have built businesses based on our platforms and services
- Our 454 alumni to date have raised $1.8B over four years
- 82% of startups that went through our accelerator program managed to raise funding
- 34 have exited (31 acquisitions, 3 IPOs)
We are proud to partner with Temasek and six of the companies within their portfolio. Incorporated in 1974, Temasek is an investment company based in Singapore. It owns a $194 billion* portfolio that is anchored in Asia and which covers a broad spectrum of industries: financial services; telecommunications, media and technology; transportation and industrials; life sciences, consumer and real estate; as well as energy and resources.
Ong Beng Teck, Managing Director, Enterprise Development Group at Temasek, said, “As an investor, it is imperative that we keep abreast of emerging technology trends. We are pleased to partner with Microsoft for their accelerator programme as it is widely considered to be one of the strongest globally, attracting the best startups across various fields. It offers partnering opportunities between promising startups and our portfolio companies to provide innovative solutions to operating pain points and enhance customer experience. For the startups, this provides them with the opportunity to work with established companies to pilot and validate their products and technologies. This is a win-win partnership.”
