A Day in the Life of a Startup: London Alum AppyParking
June is quickly shaping up to be the busiest and most exciting month since our launch.
We're currently a semi-finalist for the Virgin Business "Pitch to Rich" competition run by Richard Branson—but we still need more of your votes to help us get into the top three. If we make it to the finals, we get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pitch face-to-face with the man himself! Plus, anyone who has voted for us (in the UK) is entered in a chance to win £10,000. So please VOTE FOR US! (And don't forget to verify your email!)
On top of that, we’re expanding rapidly both in terms of our geographical coverage and the AppyParking team. Not only does our app now cover all of London, but we've recently added Edinburgh and will soon be including Bristol, Reading, and Ipswich, with more cities to follow.
To help us with expansion, we have a few new AppyParkers in the Team: Lee Hudson (that’s me) joined as COO three weeks ago and is focused on people, system, and process development; Kristina has joined to help with European expansion where her five languages will come in handy; and additional developers and marketers will be coming on board later this month.
Last week, we partnered with Ordnance Survey, a vehicle manufacturer, and a "well known technology map provider"—all of which help us develop our product more quickly and maximise the user experience.
Next week we're off to the UK Houses of Parliament to partake in an important discussion with Government ministers and business leaders who are shaping policy to create smarter UK cities using the latest technologies and innovations. It will be interesting to see what their plans are for London and understand a bit more about where the tech community can be involved. We’ll keep you posted!
And this week we watched the latest London cohort enjoy their Pitch Day, then mixed a few cocktails with the Microsoft Ventures team and London alumni. Without the help they’ve provided, we would not have come so far in the past few months. They really have provided advice in every aspect of the business—investor network, legal advice, pitch improvements, structure, and strategy. Equally, since moving over to Microsoft Azure, we’ve been able to streamline our development resources, which has saved us a significant amount of time and money and is crucial for us at this stage.
Other than that, it's pretty quiet really ;-)
Please help keep us busy by downloading the AppyParking app today and send us your feedback! Coming to Windows phone soon.
