These are the sessions that will be of particular interest to members and potential members of Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub. Each is listed under its Microsoft Build session code together with the title for the session.

ODBRK51: Intrapreneurship: Four Steps to Successfully Growing Your Idea in the Enterprise

Intrapreneurship is acting like an entrepreneur within an established company, whether that’s Microsoft or the local craft brewery. It’s creating a new business or venture within an organization. Sometimes that business grows to become a new section, or department, or even a subsidiary spinoff. No matter what your company does or where you are in your company, this session will help you answer key questions to drive your idea forward.

ODBRK53: Microsoft for Startups unlocking the Power of OpenAI for your startup

The Azure OpenAI Service and Github Copiliot are the latest offerings to emerge from a partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI that aims to accelerate breakthroughs in AI.

By bringing the OpenAI API in Azure and Github, Microsoft will enable startups to deploy GPT-3 and fine-tune language models to their specific needs for a variety of use cases – from summarization to content and code generation or use GitHub Copilot to provide code suggestions based on comments and the context of the file being edited.

ODBRK50: Architecting your startup stack

A startup’s architecture is core to the successful development of its product. As you start out it can be hard to know which architectural patterns are best. In this talk we will take a systematic approach to understanding how to best think about and build out your startup’s stack. We’ll also present a suggested architecture which you can use to build out an early-stage startup architecture.

ODBRK52: Avoid these 3 mistakes to ensure your model reaches production

The vast majority of fully trained models never make it to production, and those that do take an average of 12 weeks per development cycle. Whether due to performance issues, high costs to run, or pipeline dependencies that create roadblocks at every phase of deployment, nobody wants to endure delays or watch models die on the vine. In this session, you’ll learn how to spot (and avoid) the three most common pitfalls when it comes to getting ML models over the hurdle and into production:

  • Not fully optimizing the model for your use case and hardware target
  • Inadvertently selecting the wrong combination of framework, environment, and hardware target
  • Handing off a trained model to deploy without a “transition plan”
